Transformative Mental Health Facility in Wichita Breaks Ground at OneRise Health Campus
April 10, 2025It was a powerful day in South Wichita as state and local leaders gathered to break ground on the KDADS South Central Regional Mental Health Hospital — a monumental step forward for mental health care in Kansas.
Set on the visionary OneRise Health Campus, this 104-bed, state-of-the-art facility will provide both acute inpatient services and court-ordered competency evaluations, bringing much-needed resources to a region that has long faced a shortage of psychiatric beds.
The excitement on site was palpable, but so was the purpose. As officials spoke about the growing need for accessible, integrated care, it was clear this project is more than construction — it’s the beginning of a better future for thousands of Kansans.

OneRise: A Campus for Healing, Built on Collaboration
The new hospital is just the beginning. OneRise Health Campus — a 70-acre nonprofit initiative — is dedicated to addressing the full spectrum of mental health and substance use needs. It is designed to be a place of restoration and renewal—where individuals can access not only clinical care but also comprehensive support with housing, nutrition, workforce development, childcare, and more. We meet people where they are and walk alongside them as they move forward.
This approach reflects a deep understanding that healing isn’t one-size-fits-all. It requires connection, support, and a community-driven mindset — all values at the heart of OneRise’s mission.

A Quiet Gift, A Lasting Impact
The land where this transformation is taking shape was quietly donated by Jeff Lange, owner of LANGE Companies and a lifelong Kansan committed to building stronger communities. The Lange Family has long supported causes that bring lasting, generational change — and mental health is one of those priorities.
This contribution wasn’t made for recognition, but rather from a place of conviction — that every Kansan deserves access to the care they need, close to home. It’s a belief shared across the LANGE organization, where community development is not just about structures, but about supporting people at every stage of life.

Looking Ahead
The hospital is expected to be completed by January 2027, and will employ approximately 300 professionals when fully operational. It represents not only increased capacity for mental health treatment in Kansas but also a renewed commitment to collaboration among local agencies, state leaders, and private partners.
Yesterday’s groundbreaking marked the beginning of something extraordinary — not just for OneRise or LANGE, but for the entire region. As the first of many projects on this campus, the hospital is paving the way for a future where care is connected, accessible, and rooted in dignity and hope.
At LANGE, we’re honored to walk alongside OneRise in this work — and proud to be part of a story that’s just getting started. To learn more about OneRise, click here.
